FAQs

How do I know when to change my filter?

For most products it is about one year. The time to change the filter is when you are no longer satisfied with the rate of flow. You do not need to keep count of the litres, you will know when you need to change it as the flow will become reduced and slower. Any water that comes through the filter is still safe, eventually the flow will become so diminished so that it will be harder to suck the water through and you can then buy a new filter.

How do I fill or use my stainless steel bottle?

You simply remove the bottle lid/cap and fill the bottle with water.  The bottle is designed to filter as you drink.  If your bottle has a filter on a straw/stem (stainless steel or 800ml fliptop) you hold the bottle at a 45 degree angle and suck the water up through the mouthpiece.  You don't tip the bottle up, you have the base of the bottle pointing towards the ground.  This is because the water must be drawn up through the straw. Always drink as if you were sucking up through a straw.

What is the difference between the Fill2Pure filter bottles and other filter bottles on the market?

Other filter bottles on the market are CTO filters which are simple chlorine, taste and odour filters.  This means they remove the taste, smell of chlorine but must be used with treated tap water.  Thye cannot remove heavy metals, viruses and diseases like our technology can. Chlorine is a relatively simple chemical to remove by using carbon. Our water filters are much more complex than CTO filters (we have other patented media), this is why you can use our filter bottles outdoors with any fresh water source (rivers, ponds, lakes, streams) without the need for aquatabs, purification tablets, drops, or UV light.  Our water filters do remove chlorine but also remove other tastes, odours, biological material, chemicals, dissolved solids, heavy metals and viruses and diseases. Also we do not have an expiry date on our filters, you do not have to discard the filter after 3 or 6 months, but you can keep using them until the filter gets clogged over time.

Why can't I get water out of my stainless steel bottle?

If it is a new bottle, make sure you are not tipping the bottle upwards towards the sky as then water cannot flow up through the bottom of the filter.  If the filter is on a stem or a straw, water must be sucked up through the mouthpiece, the base of the bottle must point toward the ground.

If you have had a bottle for some time and the flow starts getting slower and becomes clogs, then it is time to replace the filter. Careful maintenance of the filter will increase its life expectancy.  Do not freeze or use in saunas.  If you are going to store the bottle for a period of time without using it please remove the filter, rinse with chlorinated water, allow to dry, then reassemble the bottle and put away.

Can the filters harbour bacteria or other contaminants?

Bacteria can grow on anything, but the key to this product concept is to periodically clean the filter. Most consumers use a Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) filter element in a manner that the systems are either attached to the faucet or permanently installed under the sink counter. The major problem is that the water is allowed to collect after use, and this is when bacteria grows or multiplies. Bacteria will grow most effectively in a dark, moist atmosphere, especially if there is no disinfectant in the remaining water. The main reason for the bacteria build-up is that filters cannot sanitize themselves automatically. With our bottle products, simply flush with chlorinated water through the system. Seychelle has not received one report of bacterial growth on one of its filters since its introduction 16 years ago.

What does BPA-free mean?

A BPA-free product is one which does not contain the compound BPA or Bisphenol A. BPA is a compound used to make polycarbonate plastics (clear, shatter proof plastics) and epoxy resins (glues and coatings). This compound has the same properties and mimics the effects of the female hormone estrogen. Research has shown that BPA has a negative effect on fetal and infant brain development and behavior. Links have also been made between BPA consumption and obesity. A study by the Yale School of Medicine in 2008 found a connection between BPA and the interference with the brains cells related to memory, mood and learning. Many other studies have been undertaken and have shown links between BPA and cancer, thyroid dysfunction, reproductive issues and attention deficits. All of our products are BPA-free.

Are your products made from quality materials?

All of our products are made from high quality materials. All Seychelle products are BPA-free (no Bisphenol A or phthalates in our plastic); they are non-toxic and do not leach; and use only FDA approved # 4 and # 5 plastics and food grade materials; and # 304 (18/18) solid stainless steel.

How do I look after the filter?

Do not place the bottle in the freezer (when water freezes it expands and could damage the bottle and/or filter).
Do not fill with hot water, or anything other than water;
Do not run the bottle through the dishwasher.

When the filter system will not be used for an extended period, flush chlorinated water through the filter and allow to dry thoroughly with top cap removed. Reassemble and stow. You may remove the filter and wash the bottle separately. Take care when removing the filter from the 500ml bottles when wet as this filter does not have a filter casing and they are more fragile when wet.

Can I use the filter with any water source?

You can use our filter with any fresh water source, tap water, river, stream, lake, swimming pool or drain. Do not use the filter with salt water.

Do I need to clean the filter?

No. Do not use soap, any cleaner or hot water on the filter as you may damage it and plug up the microscopic pore openings which will cause it to not work.

What are the advantages of Seychelle filters over buying bottled water?

Three basic reasons:

First - Our stringent testing (US EPA, NSF and ANSI Certified Testing) results of our filters assure you consistent quality, great-tasting water each and every time. Our water filtration systems are the most laboratory and field tested products of their kind in the world. Efficacy and quality are guaranteed and on record. Many bottled waters, especially in developing countries, are not guaranteed and actual water sources unspecified.

Second - the Seychelle portable water filtration bottle is affordable, efficient, cost effective and can be filled from any convenient water source anywhere, anytime except salt.

Third - the Seychelle system produces litres of bottled water at a fraction of the cost of bottled water.

Does the filter strip minerals from the water?

No, our filters will not strip essential minerals from the water, our filters leave in beneficial trace minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium.

Do I need to use purification tablets with the filters?

No, you do not need to use any purification tablets or drops with our filters.  You can drink from any fresh water source.  We instantly remove 99.99% of all viruses and diseases and our advanced filter removes 99.9999% of viruses and diseases instantly.

How is the filter capacity determined?

Seychelle performs continuous flow tests. For chlorine removal, the testing laboratories run the filters with heavily spiked water for over 1500 litres without any break-through of residual chlorine or other surrogates used. Overall filter capacity varies by product as follows:

Water jugs: up to 600 litres

Stainless steel bottles: up to 400 litres

Pumps and bags: up to 400 litres

Filter straws: up to 100 litres

As the stainless steel bottle is solid how do I squeeze water out to flush through the filter?

You do not need to flush through the filter as all of our filters come pre-flushed. We have a media called Biosafe which prevents the growth of bacteria so with our advanced technology you do not need to worry about flushing through the filter before use. But you should follow the maintenance instructions if you wish to put the filter away for some time. Please remove the filter and flush through with chlorinated water under the tap, leave to dry, dry the bottle then reassemble for storage.

Do I need to flush my filter?

All filter systems are pre-flushed at the factory. Please refer to product manuals for exact instructions for each product in our line.

What makes Seychelle filter technology the best filter choice?

We are the most lab and field tested water filter in the world. The primary reason our filters perform better than other filtration systems is that each product is designed to guarantee the greatest amount of reduction per contaminant.

The Micro-Porous body of the filter contains thousands of interconnected omni-directional pores, each being a uniform 2 micron in size. In addition to pore size control, our micro-porous filters have 3 proprietary media impregnated within that are coordinated carefully for the reduction of potentially harmful contaminants. The mechanical filtration is superior in efficacy in the removal of what is referred to as the A, B, C, D and R of water contamination:

A esthetic - unpleasant taste and odors, cloudiness, silt, sediment, chlorine, chlorine by products…
B iological - harmful microscopic pathogens such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other cysts and spores.
C hemical - toxic chemicals: Trihalomethanes, PCBs PCEs, detergents, and pesticides
D issolved solids - including heavy metals such as aluminum, asbestos, cadmium, chromium 6, copper, lead, arsenic and mercury
R adiological - Radon 222

Will the filter wear out?

The filter will not actually wear out. However, the filter slowly clogs up over time and the filtering capability slowly dimishes and when the water flow is low, it's time to replace the filter.
